EU 16 Bitonto: Installation of a Modular Urban Space

The Bitonto area between the Adriatic coast and the Apulian countryside is known for its genuine rural charm.

However, due to the absence of an urban development plan and excessive use of vehicles, town centres have lost their importance as social hubs and their previous status as public spaces within rural communities. The project's goal is to utilise the resources in the area by redeveloping Via Cela, a cycle route connecting the three town centres. The project involves an adaptive structure that reconnects the town squares with the surrounding area and serves multiple purposes. The modular structures are designed to be dynamic, flexible, and ad hoc, providing a refuge for birds and people alike. Residents can use them to take a break and read on a bench, meet up with friends, or children can enjoy the play area.

It's also possible to organise neighbourhood parties in these structures. The adaptable configurations of these structures encourage users to actively participate.
