Renovation & Extension of a Single-Family House in Léognan

In this single-storey house resides a retired couple. The lady of the house has begun to experience challenges with getting around and moving efficiently. The couple has decided to add an extension and remodel the house's interior to address this issue. While the perimeter walls were retained, the inside has been gutted and rebuilt with a practical mindset.

The extension, added to the current volumes, is more modern, marking a break between the before and after. Its steel frame and aluminium roofing contrast with the traditional tiles of the existing building. For the walls, the vertically scraped rendering is also a new feature. Its large bay window lets the residents enjoy the overlooking views of the park while relaxing in this contemporary living space. This extension forms the first zone of the house.

The second area, situated in the original part of the house, is divided into two sections by a central volume. On the park side, there is a new living space; on the garden side, there are bedrooms. This zone also comprises technical and functional areas like the laundry room and bathrooms.

The third and final zone is dedicated entirely to the bedrooms.

This new interior layout features a more rational and pragmatic design, resulting in remarkably fluid circulation between zones, allowing for easy movement throughout the house.
