Bordeaux stone
Bordeaux stone is the name given to the blond limestone used historically in the construction of buildings and houses in Bordeaux. Extracted from quarries in the Gironde (particularly those in Frontenac, Saint-Émilion and Barsac), this soft, warm stone has become an emblem of Bordeaux's architectural heritage.

An emblematic material for old buildings in Bordeaux

Easy to cut, Bordeaux stone has long been prized for its aesthetic qualities and natural moisture regulation. It forms the majority of facades in the historic centre, giving Bordeaux its characteristic golden hue. However, this stone remains fragile in the face of pollution, moss and bad weather, requiring appropriate maintenance (restoration, repointing, specific treatments).

At ERHÉ, we regularly work on projects to renovate échoppes and buildings made of Bordeaux stone, taking care to enhance the original material and strike a balance between conservation, thermal performance and aesthetics.
